1. Blue Ridge Scenic Railway
One of the best things to do in Blue Ridge, GA is to take a ride on the town’s scenic railway.
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway runs along the Toccoa River and takes passengers on a journey all the way from Blue Ridge to McCaysville. Fun for the whole family, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
The railway is open from the middle of March through December and hosts many special events throughout the year. Among these are the popular Firecracker Special and the seasonal Santa Express train trips.
2. Visit The Lilly Pad Village
Another cool attraction to be found in the Blue Ridge area is The Lilly Pad Village. The Lilly Pad Village is located about 8 miles away from the town inside of the Aska Adventure Area. The attraction offers a variety of fun activities for the whole family to participate in.
Located in a serene mountain area, The Lilly Pad Village features gem mining, mini-golf, fishing, and picnic tables. You’ll be happy to spend time in this calm and gentle area away from the hustle and bustle while surrounded by beautiful views. This spot is well worth a visit if you’re ready to get back into nature.
3. Sample Wines
One of the best things about being in Blue Ridge, GA, is that you’ll be surrounded by amazing wine. There are plenty of great wineries in North Georgia and when you visit The Vine of Blue Ridge you can sample all of them.
The Vine Wine Bar and Bistro boasts a great atmosphere and a full spectrum of amazing wines to sample and enjoy. Wine tastings occur daily and make for a great activity when in this quaint Georgia town.
On top of the selection of wine, The Vine of Blue Ridge also offers pizza, sandwiches, and salads. Be sure that you stop in if you’re in the mood for a meal or for a glass of wine.
4. Have a Cold One at Grumpy Old Men Brewing
If a glass of wine isn’t your style, you’ll be happy to learn that there are also some great places to get a cold beer in Blue Ridge as well. One of the best places that you’ll want to check out in the area is Grumpy Old Men Brewing. Be sure to check out this brewery when you’re in town.
Grumpy Old Men Brewing is one of the best North Georgia breweries and boasts some of the top seasonal beers that are around and offers some great original recipes to taste. The brewery is located on Main Street and also has plenty more going on regularly. The brewery is dog-friendly and features events and live music pretty often.
5. Swan Drive-In
If you find yourself constantly pining for yesteryear, you may also want to check out the Swan Drive-In Theater when you’re in Blue Ridge. The Swan Drive-In is a classic drive-in theatre that is still in operation and hosts many visitors throughout the year.
The drive-in has been in operation since 1955 and features a concession stand, restrooms, and reasonable prices. Be sure you check it out and experience what going to the movies used to be like in simpler times.
6. Mercier Orchards
One of the coolest attractions to visit in the North Georgia mountains is Mercier Orchards. Mercier Orchards is best-known for its apple orchard, but the attraction has a lot to offer its guests. When visiting, families will be able to pick blueberries and strawberries, visit the tasting room for fresh apple cider and fried apple pies, and take a tractor tour.
The Orchard is the biggest in the south and is located just outside of Blue Ridge, so it’s well worth stopping by for a visit with your family.
7. Go Downtown
While we’ve already mentioned some great attractions in the area, we would be regret not mentioning all of the great experiences to be found in the downtown area as well. There are many great shopping spots in downtown Blue Ridge and visitors can stop into one shop after another to find all kinds of gifts and souvenirs.
There is also plenty of great sweets, food, and drinks to indulge in as well. The Sweet Shoppe of the South is particularly fun to visit and features some amazing cupcakes and handmade candies that you’ll have trouble resisting.
While there are some great specific standout spots in Blue Ridge, simply walking around downtown and checking out all of the shops is an experience in and of itself. Be sure that you take at least one walk around town before you leave the area.
